AZO Plastics ManufacturingThe AZO story began in 1949 in Osterburken, Germany, when Adolf Zimmermann and his wife, Marianne, founded the company in a former sheep pen. Adolf, a mill builder and inventor, developed machinery for mills and bakeries, which led to one of the company’s first major innovations—the “Triumph” centrifugal flour-sifting machine, introduced in 1952. This technology became the foundation for AZO’s advanced cyclone screening systems.

The company’s name reflects its heritage, standing for Adolf Zimmermann Osterburken, a connection that remains central to its identity.

In 1978, AZO expanded into North America by establishing AZO Inc. in Memphis, Tennessee, bringing decades of German engineering expertise closer to customers across the continent.
