Regulation has come to the U.S. market for commercial and industrial fans and blowers, with final details expected within the next few months. Most manufacturers of industrial-process equipment, such as boilers and dust collectors, based on personal conversations, are ill-prepared for the redirection of engineering, design, testing, production, marketing, sales, and information-technology resources if the fans and blowers they have been sourcing become unavailable because of noncompliance. This presentation will provide insight into the development of the regulation and the metric upon which it is founded, fan energy index (FEI). Furthermore, it will identify the key elements of the scope of the regulation and recommendations for further research so manufacturers of industrial-process equipment can properly prepare for the day the regulation becomes effective.
